ELECTROMAGNET
When current passes through insulated copper wire wound around piece of iron such as an iron nail, it becomes a magnet. It attracts small objects of iron such as common pins, iron particles, paper clips, steel balls etc. As soon as the battery is disconnected from the coil the iron nails will no longer attract the pieces of iron. Such a magnet is called electromagnet. That is, it will be a magnet as long as the electric current is passing through the coil.
